A woman’s body is pulled from the water of a popular Cairns beach on friday morning.
She was unable to swim out of the water near Palm Cove Pier, and her body was found on a nearby beach hours later.
The woman, who has not yet been formally identified, entered the water near the pier at around 2.25am, Queensland Police said.
Water Police, Surf Life Saving and local police began the search shortly after receiving reports that the woman had not been able to resurface.
Surf Life Saving Queensland volunteers found her body on Buchans Point Beach, the beach immediately north-west of the area where she went missing, at 7.15am.
The death is not being treated as suspicious.
Examinations are ongoing and a medical examiner’s report will be prepared.
