The female killer whale J35 in Puget Sound, Washington, US, with the body of her calf J61, who was born in December but died shortly afterwards. This is the same whale who, in 2018, swam more than 1,000 miles (1,600km), pushing the body of her dead newborn in an apparent show of grief. This second death is a “devastating” loss for the ailing killer whale population, researchers say
